New ‘Blood on Board’ initiative provides state police with more tools to save lives – Aug 22nd

Maryland State Police introduced ‘Blood on Board,’ a program designed to enhance emergency response. Medevac helicopters are now equipped with whole blood, enabling medics to initiate transfusions immediately upon arrival.


Launched just last month, ‘Blood on Board’ has already made a significant impact, saving lives in various emergencies. Dr. Doug Floccare, the medical director for Maryland State Police’s aviation command, revealed, “We’ve administered whole blood to 23 critical patients so far. These cases ranged from trauma due to motor accidents to injuries from incidents like gunshots, parachuting, and entrapment under heavy machinery.”
