Tragic Walmart mass shooting takes 6 lives in Chesapeake, VA - TyTek praises quick first response

TyTek sends our deepest condolences to all of those affected, and we praise the first response.

The incident occurred less than an hour before the store was due to close, with at least 50 people inside. The authorities are currently looking into the shooter’s background and looking for any information which could have contributed to his motive for the attack. The 6 lives lost have been identified which you can see in depth here. According to CNN, the first officer on scene arrived within 2 minutes, with multiple other officers arriving around 10:16pm. John Furner, Walmart US’ president and CEO, said the mass shooting in Chesapeake was exceptionally tragic because the assailant was an employee.

“We feel tragedies like this personally and deeply. But this one is especially painful as we have learned the gunman was a Walmart associate,” Furner said in a statement. “The entire Walmart family is heartbroken. Our hearts and prayers are with those impacted, and we are grateful for the actions of first responders.” – CNN

TyTek along with Walmart’s CEO, praise the first response efficiency to the incident, and we hope that all of those affected are getting the support they need. Authorities ask anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.

We believe in highlighting the importance of medical supply access in public places

According to the Gun Violence Archive, the US has had more than 600 mass shootings in 2022 (the GVA considers a mass shooting as more than 4 people) It marks another shooting in a public place which is supposed to be considered safe, such as schools and hospitals. Unfortunately, it highlights that such attacks and incidents can happen anywhere, which is why everybody can benefit from getting more medically prepared. Whilst first responders were there quickly and efficiently at the Walmart shooting, there can be times where they may be slightly delayed, which means anybody who is a witness to such medical emergencies will need quick access to medical equipment as well as basic knowledge to use them.

35% of pre-hospital fatalities are due to bleeding from a traumatic injury

You don’t have to be a trained paramedic to administer first aid in an emergency, you just need the confidence and right supplies. At TyTek, it’s our mission to educate, equip and empower you to save lives. Our medical products were developed for the battlefield, but almost every day, we see and hear about civilians suffering traumatic injuries following an accident. As a result, we have prioritized the treatment of point-of-injury bleeding in public spaces. Defibrillators and fire extinguishers are placed in malls and schools etc. as standard; Military and emergency medics agree with the inclusion of bleeding control equipment in public spaces to be equally valid. In horrific events such as the Walmart shooting, it’s key to have access to bleeding control supplies, to prevent fatalities before the first response arrives. Our pouches are user-friendly and created for any skill level, packed for speed of access.
